Mr. and Mrs. Bland

The Alliance for Character in Education is pleased to honor Bob and Maureen Bland with the 2007 Vision in Education Award.

Parents of seven children, Bob and Maureen understand the special financial challenges facing private schools and are active in fund-raising for the schools their children attend.                The two oldest, Brian and Peter, attending Northridge Prep.  The five younger children (which include four that were adopted as babies from Cambodia) attend Kingswood Academy in Darien.

Maureen grew up on the south side of Chicago.  She holds a Master's degree in social work from Loyola University.

Bob is a Chairman and CEO of Insure.com, a publicly-held e-commerce insurance brokerage that he founded in 1984, then known as Quotesmith Corporation.

Bob Graduated from the University of Colorado in 1975.  His serious interest in computers and information systems was formed when he worked on the Chicago Board Options Exchange.  In founding his e-commerce insurance brokerage, Bob designed and brought to market a radical, self-service insurance shopping service that was clearly ahead of its time.  In 1999, Bob raised $65 million in a successful initial public offering during the height of the dot-com era.

Bob obtained hic Chartered Live Underwriter (CLU) designation in 2005 at the age of 52, as he puts it, "to show my children that you're never too old to quit studying."

Maureen and Bob have been involved in pro-life work and pro-life politics for many years. Maureen is a former Board Member of the Illinois Right to Life Committe.  Bob currently serves on that Board as Chairman.
